On Monday afternoon, a big 7.5 Japan earthquake happened in western Japan and it quickly made people worry about a possible Japan tsunami. The seismic upheaval, which originated approximately 42 kilometers (26 miles) northeast of Anamizu in Ishikawa prefecture, sent shockwaves through the region at 4:10 at night local time, as found in reports from the US Geological Survey (USGS) and Japan’s weather group.
The big shake, happening 10 kilometers (6 miles) down, made people in charge react quickly. The Japan weather group sent a warning about giant ocean waves to places along the west coast of Japan. This bad situation happened as people remembered past disasters like the 2011 Japan tsunami. These memories were important for everyone.
After the earthquake, many strong aftershocks kept shaking the areas that were hit. A notable 6.2 magnitude aftershock, striking at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), occurred at 4. At 6:00 pm local time, about 2.4 miles or four kilometers (southwest) from Anamizu in USGS report. After that, a 5.2 level tremble was noticed 58 kilometers (about 36 miles) to the northeast of Anamizu.
As coastal towns like Wajima in Ishikawa Prefecture saw big waves from tsunamis over 1.2 meters, the worry of a Japan tsunami similar to old disasters grew strong. The city of Toyama in Toyama prefecture reported a 50-centimeter tsunami at 4:At 9:30 p.m., this raised worries along the shore of Japan Sea.
After this major problem, people are very careful. Officials want everyone to leave quickly and always be alert. Tsunami warnings show how often and big the waves can be. They remind people to go up high from the coast, away as possible. This is so they can be safer when these dangerous waves hit land.
At the same time, worries about how safe nuclear plants are have come up. While Japan’s Kansai Electric said they found nothing strange at their nuclear plants in the affected area, Hokuriku Electric Power Company is checking its own power plants for any odd things too according to NHK news.
The world is also worried, with California giving a tsunami warning just to be safe. The Japan earthquake made people around the world more aware. It showed us how unpredictable nature can be and how important it is to quickly work together to lessen any harm from earthquakes and huge waves called tsunamis.
