Walmart’s ‘Relax’ Science Kit Recalled Over Swallowing Risks
Hey there, folks! If you’ve grabbed a Wallmart’s science kit online recently, listen up. The U.S. (CPSC) Consumer Product Safety Commission, just dropped some news about those colorful magnetic balls in Walmart’s “Relax 5mm Science Kit.” Turns out, they’re causing a bit of trouble.
The CPSC flagged these little magnets as a serious risk for kids who might accidentally swallow them. The kit, exclusively sold on Walmart‘s website, is a cube of 216 tiny, strong magnets that go beyond what federal regulations allow. No bueno.
Now, no need to panic, but swallowing these magnets can lead to some serious problems like them sticking together in the digestive system. We’re talking perforations, twisting, blockage of the intestines, and even worse – infection, blood poisoning, and, yeah, death. Yikes.
The CPSC mentioned that the magnetic balls in these kits don’t play by the rules. They estimate that 2,400 cases of magnet ingestions were treated between 2017 and 2021 in emergency rooms. Plus, they know about seven deaths globally related to swallowing these kinds of magnets.
If you got your hands on one of these kits from February 2022 to April 2023, priced at $14 to $15, here’s the deal. The kits were in a clear, plastic case and a handy tin storage box, with a cool black storage bag thrown in.
Now, here’s the important part. If you’ve got one of these kits, stop using it right away. Keep it far away from kiddos, and get in touch with Joybuy for a full refund. You can ring them up at 302-426-4543, Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PT. Shoot them an email at oversea-service@jd.com, or hit them up online at walmart.com/seller/16214.
This recall isn’t meant to freak you out, just to keep everyone safe. So, spread the word, and let’s make sure these magnetic science kits are out of harm’s way. Stay safe, everyone!
