Artur Beterbiev Triumphant Comeback, Eyes Set on WBA Title for Unification Glory
In what was one of the most-anticipated matchups that faced a short delay due to an injury setback, Artur Beterbiev proved his dominance in successfully defending his WBC/WBO/IBF light heavyweight titles as he continued with undefeated streak at 20-0 all coming by stoppage. However, the defining moment came in round seven when Beterbiev’s relentless pressure knocked Smith down twice to become the only man who KO-ed Callum smith.

Looking back on his winning ways, Beterbiev in the spirit of modesty claimed that he was lucky and it was just not only about good preparation by coach’s team. What followed this conquest was the champion making haste in saying that he wants a unification fight, mentioning Dmitry Bivol – WBA titleholder at light heavyweight as his first choice.
Beterbiev stated, “I need another 4th belt!” Thus he emphasized the importance of unification belts in lightweight. However, promoter Bob Arum verified ongoing negotiations for the bout between Beterbiev and Biol. The planned date is three months following Ramadan’s end. Even so, Arum reiterated that this one is still in the negotiation process.

The fight with Callum Smith that was initially scheduled for August 2023 soon stumbled after Beterbiev had to undergo jaw surgery due to a bone infection. His successful comeback did not only make him a formidable fighter in the division but also opened doors for an opportunity to unify with Dmitry Bivol down the road.
