Coastal Clash: Severe Thunderstorms Threaten Gulf Coast
This week, as a powerful storm system is crossing the central United States, Weather Alert. AccuWeather meteorologists warn Gulf Coast residents to prepare for Powerful thunderstorm or Tornado. In the second week of January, the formation of a formidable storm, which is impactful as much as it deposits accumulating snow on central states occurs. But, the southern periphery of the storm is about to bring another array of trouble.
Southern Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Risk
Meteorologists are forecasting a merging of the colder northern front against the warmer and moisture-laden southern front early this week may create ideal conditions for severe thunderstorms in the Southeast. After the events of strong thunderstorms from Houston to Mobile Alabama on Monday and Monday night, there is an opportunity for tornadoes to develop on Tuesday. The highest risk areas are the Florida panhandle and coastal North and South Carolina.
Increased Tornado Severity in the Southwest
AccuWeather Meteorologist Alexander Duffus points out that strong energy will drive severe thunderstorms, which are likely to produce damaging winds, hail and tornadoes when drawing across the Gulf Coast states. The development of thunderstorms will result from moisture inflow from the Gulf of Mexico, which originates in eastern Texas and southern Louisiana. 17 reports of damaging winds traveled across the Gulf states from eastern Texas to far-western Florida on Monday, along with 15 hail reports and one preliminary tornado report near Coldspring, Texas.
Southeast Tornado Threats
Tornadoes possible in Florida Panhandle and significant damage near Panama City Beach were reported on Tuesday morning. 106 mph gust was marked in Blue Mountain Beach may be due to tornado. To Tuesday and on Tuesday’s evening with sky conditions intensifying in southeastern Alabama, northern and central Florida, eastern North Carolina and far southeastern Virginia remains the possibility of severe weather conditions such as floodings, damaging winds as well as tornadoes.
Flooding Risks Amplified: Flash and River Flooding
On Tuesday, the eastward movement of the storm across Gulf Coast and Southeastern states will increase chances of flash and river flooding. A steady rainfall from Friday to Saturday left areas of the same region vulnerable to flooding. Rainfall accumulations from 1 to 2 inches in the Gulf Coast states, Appalachians and much of the Eastern Seaboard with localized areas up to 4 inch totals. Northeastern regions, already covered with two to three feet snow is also threatened by floods due to the melting snow caused by heavy rain.
Residents are encouraged to keep up with weather updates and prepare for any necessary safety measures to minimize the effect of harsh weather conditions.
