The Dark Side of Spectrum’s Latest Announcement – Prepare for Sticker Shock

In a recent development, Spectrum announced its decision to implement new rate increases, due to take effect at the end of January.

This comes as unwelcome news to Spectrum customers who have already received multiple rate increases in recent years, contributing to growing concerns among their internal customers.

From Jan. 30, Spectrum Cable customers will see a change in service chargesThe mandatory TV programming fee is currently $23.20 and is set to increase to $25.75 per month. Also, Spectrum Internet Assist, which is designed to be affordable internet for low-income households, will increase from $19.99 to $24.99 per month.

Other notable changes include a monthly HD Box subscription that goes up from $10.99 to $12.50, and the Advanced WiFi fee, which goes from $5 to $7 a month, will also go up Spectrum TV Essentials will also go up, from $24.99 to $29.99 a month.

Additionally, the Entertainment View and Latino View packages, which previously cost $12, now cost $15 per month.
Attempting to justify these adjustments, Spectrum states that it is transitioning to a new customer-focused model aimed at providing more value and choices in video entertainment.

Charter Communications Chief Financial Officer Jessica Fischer explained in a recent statement that the rising costs are a result of continuous programmer rate increases, creating a challenging environment for the video space.

Despite these changes, Spectrum is introducing an alternative for its customers in the form of the Xumo streaming box, available for $5 a month or $60 for ownership per box. However, there’s a catch – to access Xumo through Spectrum, customers must also subscribe to Spectrum internet services.

This move by Spectrum comes at a time when the company is recognized as the most widely available TV provider in the Buffalo area.

As rates have steadily increased over the years, many Spectrum customers have expressed dissatisfaction and are opting to cut the cord, transitioning to streaming services.

It’s important to note that these rate hikes will take effect in February, impacting various cable television and internet packages. Charter Communications-owned Spectrum has more than 32 million subscribers in 41 countries, this change impact on a large portion of its user base
